Chatsworth gets a festive feel

Posted on Sunday, 08 November 2009 02:34PM by Danny Carden Matlock Mercury
Busy workers have this week been applying the finishing touches to Chatsworth House's fairytale-themed festive display.

The Mercury was invited to grab a sneek peek on Friday of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire's new Christmas decorations.

The Hans Christian Andersen-themed display, which will be open to the public until December 23, features scenes from classic tales such as The Snow Queen, The Princess and the Pea and The Steadfast Tin Soldier.

Pupils at primary schools in Pilsley, Stoney Middleton, Baslow and Great Longstone have helped make many of the decorations, using a wealth of materials from real feathers to chiffon.

Chatsworth House's textile department has also designed a new range of colourful costumes to help visitors of all ages get into character this Christmas.
