Markowitz has a rich history as a business in the village. Originally in the early part of the 20th century, Maurice and Max Markowitz opened a small shop on Queen Street repairing motor bikes bicycles, later in 1935 moving to it's current location on Commercial Road where it thrived and eventually evolving in the 1950's to a builder's merchants. It now services the Peak District as a builders and plumbers merchants, whilst also stocking many quality fires, cookers and ovens.
